My sailing journey began on the lakes and rivers of Ukraine when I was 9 years old. The idea came from my mom, who also sailed when she was younger. From the very first sail on the river I was hooked. From that time, I recruited one of my friends to join and then another, and this became the activity we would participate in every summer (while joining the learning sessions in the classroom off season).

I began on a small one person Optimist dinghy, and began racing competitively, at one point, placing 4th in a local competition. As I grew up, my friend an I formed a team on a larger, two person Kadet sailboat.

Fast forward to today—now living in Pittsburgh, a city of 3 rivers and numerous bridges. I often reminisced of my sailing days, and now having two young children, I wanted to introduced them to sailing as well. This led me to continuing my journey of sailing and it’s why I’ve started 3 Rivers Sailing—to document my journey and to share this passion with others.

To be continued…
