Today’s outing on the river was what I would describe a perfect sail. Temperatures in the upper 70s – lower 80s, 7 knot winds gusting to 15 and an overall pleasant conditions. My son Evan came with me today and was on the jib duty. He quickly realized that when winds were gusting it was difficult holding the lines, and opted in for using a winch instead.
We left the dock around 11:50 am and came back at 1:50 pm. Leaving the dock was easy peasy – I tried a different technique of pulling the bow away and pushing the boat out away from the boat next to me. This worked out well with the wind going one way and current going the other way.
On the return, we had to abort the first attempt as the higher winds pushed us too far past the dock. After backing up and attempting at the a steeper angle, we docked with no issues.
Bonus – we heard our first coast guard chatter on the radio so at least we know it works!
