Jim (previous owner of the sailboat) made a trip from Ohio to come sail with me today. We started out around 1pm with barely any wind, so we motored upstream. The river flow was moderate so the trolling motor was able to keep up OK on about 3/4 of available power. The weather forecast predicted a storm around 4pm so I was expecting the winds to pick up. The forecast did not disappoint and the wind picked up nicely between 2pm and 3pm. We were moving!
The wind direction was changing every few minutes so it was a bit challenging to keep up with it, but we managed. Jim was at the helm while I was manning the sails. We moved around in the backchannel of Ohio river near I79 bridge and headed back around 3:30 to avoid being stuck in the thunderstorm.
As I closed the boat and stepped onto the dock it was lightning nearby and started to pour. We got drenched! This was the outing that brought back all sorts of memories from my teenage years when we would go out and sail in all wind and weather and reminded me why I wanted to get back into this activity after all these years.
See below a video log of the sail with a gopro mounted to the back side of the tiller handle.
