First Time Raising All Sails

Back to back sailing this Father’s Day weekend! This time I brought the whole family with me. Had a light wind so raised both sails while I had my 7 year old at the helm steering. We originally weren’t going to go out on the water and came to check out the boat as the family hasn’t seen it cleaned up and rigged yet.

Upon arriving, the conditions were favorable and the current looked manageable so we decided to do a quick cruise. It took us about an hour to go about half a mile upstream, and when we turned around to come back it took us 5 minutes to get back! While we were out, the river current increased significantly and it took all of the power of the little trolling motor to get back to the dock without floating downstream. One of the downsides of sailing on the Ohio river and being at the mercy of dam operators!
